Scotiabank Owen SoundScotiabank is one of North America’s premier financial institutions and Canada’s most international bank. Through our team of 69,000 employees, Scotiabank and its affiliates offer a broad range of products and services, including personal, commercial, corporate and investment banking, to more than 12.5 million customers in some 50 countries around the world.

Since welcoming our first customers in 1832, Scotiabank has enjoyed continued success by building on traditional core strengths – risk management, cost control, diversification, customer satisfaction and great employees. Our goal is to be the best Canadian-based international financial services company.

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is an essential part of the way we do business at Scotiabank. We believe that, as a socially responsible company, our corporate goals and objectives must align with the priorities of our stakeholders, including our customers, employees, shareholders and community partners.

In 2008, the Bank contributed more than $43 million in sponsorships and donations to a variety of Canadian and international projects and initiatives, primarily in education, health care, social services, and arts and culture.

Our core purpose is to be the best at helping customers become financially better off. This guides all our decisions. We are committed to providing excellence in customer service by living our shared values, as a team and individually. Diversification, by business and geography, continues to be the focus of our strategy and underpins our potential for sustainable earnings growth in each of our three business lines – Canadian Banking, International Banking and Scotia Capital – over the long term.

Canadian Banking provides a comprehensive range of banking and investing services to more than 7 million customers across Canada through a multi-channel delivery network of more than 21,500 employees, over 1,015 branches, more than 2,940 automated banking machines, Internet and telephone banking, three call centres, 102 wealth management branches, four dealer finance centres and six commercial business support centres.

Canadian Banking includes three main businesses:

  • Retail and Small Business Banking provides mortgages, loans, credit cards, investments, insurance and day-to-day banking products to individuals and small businesses.
  • Wealth Management provides a full range of personal investment and advisory products and services, including retail brokerage, mutual funds and private client services for affluent customers which include investment management, private banking, estate and trust services.
  • Commercial Banking serves medium to large businesses, and provides unique products for agriculture, franchising, leasing, real estate and automotive lending, as well as tailored financing solutions through Roynat Capital.
