Walking through TJ’s front door is a little like stepping back in time. It reminds you when all small restaurants were family businesses. The family worked as a team, and took great pride in serving the local community. Today, in an era when the food service business is dominated by pre-prepared, ready-to-serve meals, TJ’s has focussed on daily freshness.

It all started when Jamie Simkins and his dad, Kemp Simkins, purchased the business together 14 years ago. They worked side-by-side for seven years until Kemp retired, and now Jody and Jamie run the business as a husband and wife team.

The counter, originally from Kresge’s Department Store in Owen Sound, is the centre of the action where you are greeted by the friendly staff and your meal is prepared fresh right before your eyes, just the way you want it.

Jamie is the chief cook and baker, he learned his skills in the best way possible – from his mother. Everyday, TJ’s roasts their own turkey and beef, and prepares, from scratch, their hot dishes. Most of their baked goods – pies, tarts, turnovers, and Chelsea buns, are made right on the premises.

TJ’s is all about great food, prepared fresh while you wait, everyday.
